Situation
Technicians carry parts in the van for several jobs.
Recommendation
Set the van up as a warehouse; transfer stock to it, and cost is recorded only when issued to a job.
Why
A transfer is not consumption: stock on the van stays company stock until issued to a job. Returning unused stock from the van does not reverse cost. A job cannot close while the van is unreconciled.
Steps
- Set up the van as a warehouse.
- Transfer parts from central to the van (stock transfer).
- When used on a job, issue from the van — cost is recorded now.
- Return surplus to central by stock transfer.
- Reconcile the van before closing the job.
