Check-ins and progress tracking
Check-ins are the heartbeat of OKR. Each week owners update Key Result current values and confidence, and the system recomputes objective progress automatically.
When to use
Use this every week (or at the rhythm set by your company): to say how each key result is moving and how confident you are. Without check-ins the cycle summary is just the starting numbers.
Before you start
- Permission:
okrs:checkinto check in;okrs:readto see OKRs. - The check-in rhythm and its reminders are set in OKR settings.
- If a key result is linked to a task, KPI or course, its value may update by itself.
Open your objective
From OKR → My OKRs (/okr/my-okrs), open an objective and click Check in.
Update key result values
Enter the latest current value for each Key Result. Progress is computed as (current − start) / (target − start).
Update confidence and add a note
Adjust the confidence score and add a short update (blockers, next steps). This narrative appears in Team Health and cycle reports.
Review the roll-up
Objective progress rolls up from its Key Results; team and company progress roll up through the OKR Tree.

Ways a key result updates
| Source | What happens |
|---|---|
| Manual check-in | You enter the current value and confidence |
| Linked task | When the task changes status, the key result or milestone updates |
| Linked KPI | When the KPI actual is updated, the key result syncs |
| Linked LMS course | Completing the course checks in the key result, if people.okr_kpi_sync is on (default off) |
Each key result keeps a history of values.
Tips & common mistakes
- Write a real update: blockers and next steps, not just the number.
- If a key result is linked to a KPI, do not overwrite the value by hand.
- Flag a key result at risk early; the team view highlights it.
- Check-in compliance is visible to managers in team health.
