Accounting separates day-to-day bookkeeping from period-close and configuration controls.

  • Accountant — creates and posts journal entries, runs bank reconciliation, prepares VAT filings, and reads reports. Typically cannot close or lock a period.
  • Finance Manager / Admin — adds period close and lock, budget enforcement settings, consolidation setup, and standard/year migration.
  • Admin — full configuration access, including Posting Rules, the Chart of Accounts, and Internal Controls.

A closed period blocks new postings dated inside it; a locked period is immutable — corrections go through a reversing entry in the current open period instead, which is enforced regardless of role. See Finance for how this affects invoices, bills, expenses, and payments dated in a closed period.
