Importing from Documents

Turn existing Word or PDF files into wiki articles without retyping.

When to use

Use import when policies and procedures already exist as files in the Documents app and you want them searchable and reviewable as articles.

Before you start

  • You need both kb:write and read access to the source document (documents:read).
  • Import is one-way: Document to KB draft. Later edits to the file do not change the article.

Steps

  1. Open /knowledge/kb and choose the import option.

  2. Pick the document. The text is extracted and a draft article is created.

  3. Edit the draft: fix formatting, choose a category and tags.

  4. Send it for review or publish. The article detail links back to the source document.

Tips & common mistakes

  • Check tables and images after import; extraction produces text, so layout may need fixing.
  • Remember the article is a copy: update the article itself, not only the file.
  • Imported drafts are not visible to readers until published.
