Finalizing reviews and merit pay
After reviewers submit, you consolidate each person’s result, lock it, and generate merit pay proposals.
When to use
Use this once reviewers have submitted: to consolidate the 360 result for each person, lock it, and turn it into a merit pay proposal for Payroll. It is the bridge from ratings to pay.
Before you start
- Permissions:
performance:finalizeto finalize a person’s review;performance:approvefor merit pay and calibration;performance:writeto assign reviewers. - Toggle
people.merit_pay_linked_to_review(default off, on for new companies): enables creating merit pay proposals from a completed cycle. - Toggle
people.calibration_session_required(default off): the cycle must be marked calibrated first. - Toggle
people.idp_required_after_review(default off): every reviewed person needs an IDP before proposals. - Toggle
people.review_competency_sync(default off, on for new companies): the manager’s competency scores update the employee’s competency levels on finalize.
Finalize each person
From the cycle, open Performance → Reviews (/performance/reviews) and finalize the consolidated result for each reviewee.
Mark the cycle calibrated
If your company requires it, mark calibration complete on Performance → Calibration (/performance/calibration).
Generate merit pay proposals
Open the cycle in Review Cycles (/performance/reviews/cycles) and generate merit pay proposals; they go to Payroll as adjustment requests.
What finalization does
- Reviewers’ forms are consolidated into one result for the person.
- Finalizing locks that result.
- The result is written back to the manager’s review row, which feeds the nine-box and the employee summary.
- If competency sync is on, competency levels are updated.
- Merit pay: the cycle’s finalized results and current salaries produce salary increase requests that go to Payroll for approval.
Tips & common mistakes
- Finalize only after calibration, because the result is locked.
- If merit pay is blocked, check the three toggles above: calibration, IDP and the merit link.
- Merit proposals arrive in Payroll as adjustment requests; they do not change salary until approved there.
- Completion evaluation, which feeds Payroll formulas, is a separate page under Metrics.
