Crews, production personnel & skills

Manufacturing’s labour features share data with HR: skills are HR’s competency matrix (levels 1–5), and crews are Workforce crews with a production purpose. A routing declares the required skills and headcount per operation; the system checks them when assigning and when starting work.

Who uses it

Supervisors and team leads assign work (manufacturing:write); operators start operations on the shop floor.

Before you start

  • Production crews and operator skills (manufacturing.labor_skills, requires shop_floor).
  • Operators missing a required skill (manufacturing.skill_gate): choose warn or block.
  • Assign production work to production personnel only (manufacturing.personnel_roster_only, requires labor_skills) to restrict who can be assigned.
  • Employee competencies are recorded in HR.

Steps

Build the production personnel roster

Go to Manufacturing → Production personnel (/manufacturing/personnel), add employees and their role. People who leave are deactivated, not deleted.

Create crews

Go to Manufacturing → Production crews (/manufacturing/crews), create a crew, add active employees and pick a crew lead from its members.

Declare skills on the routing

In the routing editor, set required skills (minimum level) and headcount per operation. Work Orders snapshot these at creation.

Assign and start

On the shop floor, use Assign to give an operation to a person or a crew; the system suggests qualified operators. A crew qualifies when every skill is covered by at least one member. When starting or resuming, you can enter the headcount.

Tips & limits

  • Block mode has no bypass: a person pressing Start or Resume also goes through the gate, unless they belong to the assigned crew and the crew covers the skills. Warn mode allows the work and shows the warning.
  • Labour minutes = elapsed time × headcount; machine minutes are not multiplied.
  • With the personnel-only flag, someone starting work themselves is not blocked (so the shop does not stall) but is flagged “outside roster” in the per-employee report.
