Selling prices
Selling prices are the single, central place where the price of a product is set. Prices keep a history, can be scheduled to take effect later, and large changes can be held for approval. Price lists (see Price lists) build on top of this.
When to use
Use it when several people quote the same products and you want one price source, a visible change history, and control over who can change a price and by how much.
Before you start
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| View | selling_prices:read |
| Change, schedule, import | selling_prices:write |
| Approve or reject held changes | selling_prices:approve |
sales.selling_price_central_only | Prices can only be edited on this screen. Default: on |
sales.selling_price_approval_required | Changes above the threshold wait for approval. Default: off (threshold default 10%) |
Change a price
Open the screen
Go to Sales → Selling Prices (/sales/selling-prices) and find the product with the search and filters.
Edit or schedule
Set the new price and, if needed, an effective date. You can also edit many rows at once by filter, with a preview before committing, or import a CSV and review the preview first.
Review the history
Open a row to see its price history. If approval is on and the change exceeds the threshold, it appears in the pending queue for an approver.
Tips & common mistakes
- Preview before you commit a bulk edit or CSV import; nothing is written until you commit.
- With central-only on, a rep cannot override the base price on a document, so fix the price here rather than on the quote.
- Orders lock the price when confirmed when
sales.price_lock_on_confirmis on (default on), so a later price change does not alter confirmed orders.
